OnePlus’s first book-style foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Open, was expected to launch next month. However, the launch date was pushed back due to the company’s decision to switch display manufacturers.

The latest leak is not actually directly about the OnePlus Open. It’s about a different foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N3. However, both are rumored to be essentially the same device for different markets.

Will OnePlus Open have the sharpest display?

According to Digital Chat Station, the OPPO Find N3 is expected to feature the highest pixel-density display among all foldable smartphones.

The leaker claims that Find N3 will feature a 7.82-inch main display with a 2,268 × 2,440 resolution and pixel density of 426 PPI.

In contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 7.6-inch inner display with a 1,812 x 2,176 resolution and a pixel density of 373 PPI.

In other words, the OPPO Find N3, i.e., the OnePlus Open, will feature a larger internal display, and not only that, the display will be sharper and more detailed.

The external display is also getting the same treatment. OPPO Find N3’s external display is expected to have a 2,484 x 1,116 resolution, which is far higher than Galaxy Z Fold 5’s external screen with a 904 x 2,316 resolution.

The two phones are expected to launch soon, but launch and availability details haven’t been announced just yet.

Samsung made an unexpected decision in 2022. The company suddenly decided to decrease the battery capacity of the Galaxy S22 series. While the Galaxy S21 featured a 4,000 mAh battery capacity, on the Galaxy S22, it dropped to 3,700 mAh.

As suspected, the battery life suffered, and fans were not happy. Samsung tried to rectify the decision by slightly increasing the battery capacity of the Galaxy S23 series, but it still lacked behind the Galaxy S21

The latest report from the Dutch publication Galaxy Club suggests Samsung could finally be bringing bigger batteries to its flagship phone series.

According to the publication, next year’s Samsung Galaxy S24 could feature a 4,000 mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Galaxy S21, and accompanied by more efficient chipsets; the S24 could feature even better battery life.

The report indicates the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus might also get the same treatment. The Galaxy S24 Plus could come with a 4,900 mAh battery, a 200 mAh increase from the current Galaxy S23 Plus.

If the information is correct, the S24 Plus could feature the biggest battery in the history of the Samsung Galaxy Plus models. The Galaxy S21 Plus featured a 4,800 mAh battery.

Lastly, the leader of the pack, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, should stick to its huge 5,000 mAh battery. Of course, these are all early leaks, so be sure to take them with a grain of salt, as Samsung could change its decisions before launch.

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to arrive in early 2024, so we still have a long way to go.

The post Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 leaks less than a month after Z Flip 5 launch appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Samsung just launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5 late last month with the giant cover display being one of the few major upgrades. However, the flip phone still has the dual 12MP + 12MP camera setup.

GalaxyClub has some good news for the Galaxy Z Flip fans. According to the news outlet, the Korean tech giant is already in the early stages of testing the Galaxy Z Flip 6, reportedly with a prototype 50MP main camera.

We have no concrete confirmation on this, and it’s a pretty early leak. So, Samsung may end up ditching this 50MP sensor and stick to the 12MP camera.

If Samsung does end up using this 50MP primary sensor on next year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6, it would be a game changer for the Korean company and the Galaxy Z Flip series.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 desperately needs a camera upgrade

Next Year's Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Could Feature a Much Awaited Camera Upgrade
Image: KnowTechie

Samsung introduced the 12MP primary camera with the first Galaxy Z Flip model back in 2020. Last year, Samsung did improve the primary camera with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 by adding a larger sensor for better low-light photography, but it stuck to the 12MP resolution.

Samsung’s rival OPPO Find N2 Flip already offers a 50MP primary camera, and this year it’s likely to improve further with the OPPO Find N3 Flip, pushing Samsung into a corner.

There are also several advantages of using high-resolution sensors. Due to the higher resolution, the sensors are able to deliver cleaner, brighter shots in low-light scenarios. The snapped photos are also far more detailed in native resolutions and daylight situations.

More importantly, 50MP sensors can deliver digital zoom using image cropping and make 8K recording possible. We hope that Samsung will at least improve the camera hardware on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 next year, as we got next-to-nothing in that department this year.

Google Pixel, Google’s first Android smartwatch, was released last year with tons of praise and a few criticisms. While no one expected the company to nail it to perfection, expectations are high for its successor, the Pixel Watch 2.

As a potential Pixel Watch 2 release date closes in, more and more details about the watch are making their way to the surface.

The Pixel Watch 2 previously appeared in an FCC listing, which revealed a few important details. Now, a new leak unveils the watch’s key specifications.

According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch 2 has been listed in the Google Play Console device catalog. This catalog is a list of Android devices that developers can access when distributing apps.

OPPO is long rumored to be working on OPPO Find N3 Flip, the company’s flagship flip phone that will take on the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Moto Razr Plus.

However, the recent leak suggests the company is also planning to launch a smartwatch alongside the flip phone, the OPPO Watch 4 Pro, and the launch is almost here.

According to leaker Max Jambor’s post on X, the OPPO Find N3 Flip will be launched on August 29, 2023. However, we are pretty skeptical about this leak, as it’s already the 17th, and OPPO hasn’t officially announced anything yet.

That said, prominent leaker, Yogesh Brar partially corroborated this information on X by mentioning a scheduled launch date of “end of August.” He also mentioned the launch is in China only, with no mention of a global release.

However, previous leaks have suggested that the Find N3 Flip could launch globally in September.

Digital Chat Station also partially corroborated the OPPO Find N3 Flip leak. The leaker confirms the launch month while also mentioning the company’s plans to launch OPPO Watch 4 Pro alongside.

OPPO Find N3 Flip and Watch 4 Pro expected specs

The OPPO Find N3 Flip is expected to sport a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED internal display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3-inch cover display.

The camera setup is said to include a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto sensor. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera inside, and a design refresh

While the flip phone’s battery capacity hasn’t been revealed, it is expected to feature 67W fast charging support. The device is also expected to be powered by ColorOS 14, based on Android 13.

The OPPO Watch 4 Pro is expected to use the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor as its predecessor, OPPO Watch 3 Pro. But this time, the company will pair the processor with a BES2700 chip for low-power mode.

This chip allows a smartwatch with only a 570mAh battery to last up to 5 days.  OPPO is also expected to replace the aluminum mid-frame with stainless steel, while the backplate could be ceramic this time around.

Last year, OPPO didn’t launch the Watch 3 Pro outside of China, so we are not holding our breath for a global launch of the Watch 4 Pro.

The post Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to be pretty expensive, leak says  appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, is expected to release this year. But a new report suggests the new chip might be more expensive than the current version.

That may force some brands to stick to the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

This will further segregate the flagship market, with some companies opting for older or rival chips to power Android phones in 2024.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may be too expensive for some brands

According to Digital Chat Station, the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is “a bit high.”

They added that some manufacturers plan to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or a Dimensity chipset from MediaTek in 2024’s Android smartphone ranges.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leak by Digital Chat Station on Weibo
Source: Weibo/KnowTechie

In other words, the brands could only use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in their Pro, Plus, and/or Ultra flagship phones, with the standard flagships using current-gen processors.

However, we have seen this before. Android manufacturers like OPPO and Vivo already use this business model. The iPhone 14 got the A15 Bionic, while the Pro range got the new A16 Bionic chips.

This keeps profit margins high while allowing to separate the normal and premium versions of the same generation. If the alleged cost is too high for the upcoming Snapdragon SoC, expect to see more manufacturers adopt this.

Although they may be considered older models, both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and MediaTek Dimensity flagship chipsets still provide impressive power and a multitude of advanced features.

Most users won’t even notice the absence of Snapdragon’s latest and greatest. The potential issue is longevity, as the newest chipset is usually supported for longer.

Newly leaked images show the OPPO Find N3 Flip, with a familiar design of some components.

OPPO is currently the only smartphone manufacturer with foldables to rival Samsung’s Z Fold and Z Flip ranges.

We’ve got a look at the design of OPPO’s newest flip phone, thanks to a couple of timely leaks.

The leak showcases OPPO Find N3 Flip’s new camera bump

Digital Chat Station on Weibo and Indian tech outlet Pricebaba (via Wayback Machine) posted the new renders and CAD files of the OPPO Find N3 Flip.

Both posts are now removed, but we managed to save the images. The leaked renders showcase the new rear design of the OPPO Find N3 Flip.

However, the new foldable renders are different from the previous ones.

The older renders showed three camera modules in a line, reminiscent of the Find N2 Flip or the Samsung Galaxy S range.

Source: Pricebaba

The new renders show all the rear cameras have been placed onto a single camera island with the Hasselblad branding.

If that camera module looks familiar, it’s because that’s the design on any recent OnePlus device.

The tipsters say that the trio of rear cameras will be a 50MP main with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 32MP telephoto. The selfie camera will be 32MP.

We’re wondering if the same OnePlus 11 5G cameras will be used. If so, the 8MP ultrawide could be a typo, as the OnePlus device has a 38MP ultrawide sensor instead.

The OPPO Find N3 Flip is expected to feature a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED internal folding display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3-inch cover display on the outside.

Unfortunately, we are unaware of the N3 Flip’s battery size, but it is expected to feature 67W fast charging, and the device will come with ColorOS 14 based on Android 13 out of the box.

The Pricebaba leaks say the devices are expected to be launched in China by the end of the month, with a global launch scheduled for September.

Is fast charging actually bad for your battery? https://knowtechie.com/is-fast-charging-actually-bad-for-your-battery/ https://knowtechie.com/is-fast-charging-actually-bad-for-your-battery/#respond Mon, 14 Aug 2023 23:10:56 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=193347 MKBHD breaks it all down in his latest YouTube video.

The post Is fast charging actually bad for your battery? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Fast charging is generally safe for your battery when used with compatible devices and chargers. However, it may have a slight impact on battery health over time.

Fast charging tech for smartphones is insanely useful. I mean, who doesn’t want to be able to charge 50 percent of their battery in minutes? With speeds ever-increasing, you might have some questions about how a fast charger affects your battery health.

I mean, OnePlus has phones that come with a 150W charger. That’s full battery life in less than 15 minutes, and the company is working on an even faster 240W charger.

The Lithium-ion batteries in your smartphones are getting better all the time. Unlike NiCad, it’s not electrons that move between the positive and negative electrodes but ions.

In theory, this could work forever, but real-world usage means they start to degrade. The biggest killer? Heat.

So what do manufacturers do to mitigate fast charging issues?

Popular YouTuber MKBHD noticed that every video about advances in charging tech has the comments section littered with “I don’t want that on my phone, that’s definitely going to overheat,” to “good luck plugging that in for more than five minutes before it explodes.”

He decided to find out if that’s actually true, and it’s pretty cool what he discovered.

Video: MKBHD

The first thing he found is that the rated speed of any charger typically only hits that speed for the first few minutes after plugging in.

A 65W charger goes at full for maybe 20 minutes before it drastically drops the power and trickle charges. That keeps the heat down, helping with battery longevity.

The other thing is that lithium-ion batteries don’t like being at 100 percent or 0 percent charge. They’re happier in the middle, which is why battery health algorithms stop the charge once they get to 80 percent.

check battery health on iphone
Image: KnowTechie

He also found that there’s an industry standard for what actually counts as “ruining your battery.” That’s a target of 80 percent battery health after 800 charges. If you charge once a day, that’s over two years before your battery degrades below this point.

The biggest thing to take away from MKBHD’s video is that speedy charging doesn’t have to destroy your battery. They’re a convenient way to keep your battery topped up. The best thing to do is to keep using your phones as normal and try not to let them get hot.

The Google Pixel 8 series is expected to be unveiled soon, and in the last few months, we have seen a steady stream of related leaks.

The most recent leak revealed Google would stick to the 128GB base storage for another year, which was somewhat disappointing. However, we have yet another video leak showcasing the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

New leaked Google Pixel 8 Pro video

The leaker posted the Google Pixel 8 Pro video on X (formerly Twitter), and it looks like an ad spot, likely to be used as a television commercial in the future.

The video shows a few skateboarders using a new Google Pixel 8 Pro and a feature named “Audio Magic Eraser.”

As the name suggests, the so-called “Audio Magic Eraser” will use AI to remove unnecessary audio from video clips. Of course, we are yet to experience this feature in the real world, but it sounds cool. It seems like Google has decided to extend its Magic Eraser feature from photos to audio for videos.

The clip ends by showing the Google Pixel 8 Pro, in a new Blue colorway, likely the “Sky” color revealed in a previous leak, and it looks fantastic.

What we find most interesting is that the text on the video says “Google Pixel 8” repeatedly, but in the end, we only see the Google Pixel 8 Pro. This led us to believe that the standard Google Pixel 8 is also likely to support the Audio Magic Eraser feature as well.

We also noticed some weird color grading in the video, which makes us think that the video was not ready for distribution.

That said, we are obviously playing guessing games at the moment. We’ll know more at the Google Pixel 8 and the Google Pixel 8 Pro launch in October.

If your memes make people laugh, Yepp believes they should make you smile to the bank.

To this end, Yepp has introduced an industry-leading and transparent revenue-sharing model.

Yepp’s weekly ad revenue is split 50/50 between the app and its users, who can expect to earn up to $1,750 weekly.

30% also goes to friends invited by users, 17% to creators, and 3% to users who view memes.
