The post When is the new Apple Watch coming out? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Apple is likely to release the Series 9 Apple Watch in September, 2023.

Much like its flagship iPhones, Apple tends to release a new Apple Watch model every year. The company has released a new model every year since 2015, when the original Watch came out.

While it’s still relatively early in 2023, it’s safe to assume that Apple will stick to its previous schedule with the next wearable.

After all, the company launched the Apple Watch Ultra last year. We’ll surely see some of the new features found in that model added to the Series 9 later in 2023.

Apple Watch Series 9 release date

Short answer: Most likely in the fall of 2023

Every single Apple Watch has been announced in September, except for the original, which was in April of 2015.

Apple has released the wearable alongside that year’s iPhone range, except for 2020, when the iPhone wasn’t announced until the month after.

SeriesRelease Date
1st GenerationApril 24, 2015
Series 2September 7, 2016
Series 3September 12, 2017
Series 4September 21, 2018
Series 5September 20, 2019
Series 6September 18, 2020
Series 7October 15, 2021
Series 8September 16, 2022

As to when in September, we have a couple of pointers. Apple almost always has its iPhone and Apple Watch event on the second Tuesday of September.

Sometimes it’s been the second Wednesday. Expect the second week of September again this year, so that’s around September 12 or 13.

Of course, this Series 9 release date prediction might not be accurate. Delays are always possible, and even if the wearable is announced, we might have to wait to be able to order one.

Last year, there was a little over a week gap between the announcement and release. As long as there aren’t any supply issues, we expect about the same time between the announcement and the official release date.

We’ll have to wait to find out exactly when the Apple Watch Series 9 will be released. Until then, we’ll keep bringing you all the rumors as we find them out.

Overall, while we may not have a definitive answer yet as to when exactly the Apple Watch will come out, one thing is certain – it is definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

With its cutting-edge technology and stylish design, it has all the makings of another game-changing product from Apple. So mark your calendars and get ready for what could potentially be one of this year’s most exciting gadget release

Can Apple Watch measure blood pressure? https://knowtechie.com/can-apple-watch-measure-blood-pressure/ https://knowtechie.com/can-apple-watch-measure-blood-pressure/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:46:06 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=203848 Apple Watches are stuffed with features, but what about blood pressure monitoring and testing?

The post Can Apple Watch measure blood pressure? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: No, the Apple Watch does not currently measure blood pressure. While it can track heart rate and ECG, it lacks the sensors needed to directly monitor blood pressure. Apple has filed patents suggesting future models may add this capability, but existing watches cannot measure blood pressure.

The Apple Watch is a marvel of miniaturized technology. Seriously, it’s a wrist-mounted computer with a ton of features and health-monitoring options. But does that include measuring blood pressure alongside everything else?

Apple has stuffed the Apple Watch full of advanced technology, including a ton of sensors. It can track your biometrics, sleep, movement, and more. It can even dial 911 when it detects a fall, which is pretty darn great.

With all of those sensors, can it measure your blood pressure?

Can the Apple Watch measure your blood pressure?

Short answer: Not yet

The last time we heard anything about Apple working on blood pressure monitoring, the feature was still a ways off from completion.

Apple was trying to figure out a way to measure it without directly measuring it. Also, it was planned to show blood pressure trends, not baseline measurements of systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

apple watch six
Image: Apple

That’s not to say that a future Apple Watch couldn’t show baseline measurements. A British start-up called Rockley Photonics has Apple as one of its main customers.

If you guessed that Rockley makes sensors that could measure blood pressure, give yourself a gold star. They make sensors that can measure everything from blood alcohol levels to glucose and even blood pressure.

Those are potentially ready for market next year, so the Apple Watch 9 or later could feature accurate blood pressure monitoring.

So, in summary – the Apple Watch does not currently measure blood pressure directly on its own, but Apple may add this capability via new sensors and algorithms in future models.

For now, those needing to monitor their blood pressure should use a dedicated FDA-approved blood pressure monitor device rather than rely on estimations from an Apple Watch app.

Apple Watch X will be a major redesign launching next year https://knowtechie.com/apple-watch-x-redesign-next-year/ https://knowtechie.com/apple-watch-x-redesign-next-year/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 08:39:16 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=313621 New magnetic band attachment is also being tested.

The post Apple Watch X will be a major redesign launching next year appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
There have been multiple iterations of the Apple Watch, with minor technical upgrades in every iteration, while the overall design remained mostly the same.

The biggest departure from Apple’s tried and tested formula was seen last year with the Apple Watch Ultra, which delivers the best premium feature Apple has to offer.

Even the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9 is said to be coming with minor upgrades, which is slated to release in September alongside the iPhone 15 series

However, we are not discussing 2023’s Apple Watch iteration but the tenth iteration of Apple’s smartwatch, the Apple Watch X, which will be launched next year and is expected to get a redesign.

What to expect from the Apple Watch X

Renowned journalist Mark Gurman has stated in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple is planning to launch the “Apple Watch X” in 2024, and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of one of the world’s most successful smartwatch lineup, Apple is planning a redesign of the standard Apple Watch series.

According to Gurman, the company is planning to launch the Apple Watch X with a thinner design and a new band attachment style.

Since its launch, the Apple Watch has kept the staple sliding-and-locking mechanism. Besides the minor size differences, Apple’s decision to stick to the same mechanism enabled the customers to use older bands with newer watches, making the bands backward compatible.

Apple Watch X is expected to get a major redesign
Image: KnowTechie

Overall, it was an excellent idea on Apple’s part that kept the customers happy and enabled them to experiment with different bands without breaking the bank.

Although Apple’s design mechanism was way ahead of its time, Apple held it back for almost a decade. The mechanism has now become outdated, and it takes considerable space that can be used for other components.

However, we speculate Apple has realized it to change it. The Cupertino company is rumored to be working on a new magnetic band attachment system, but whether it will be available with the Apple Watch X is still unclear.

In terms of hardware, Apple is working on a microLED display that is rumored to be considerably better than the current OLED display. The company is also rumored to be working on a blood pressure monitoring feature.

But Apple Watch X is still a year away, so more rumors are bound to appear, and it remains to be seen which changes end up on the final products.

The post Apple Watch SE 3 set to release in 2024, says new report appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
As usual, Apple is going to refresh its Apple Watch line in the coming annual iPhone event, slated for September. However, there will be no Apple Watch SE 3 this year.

Fans of the budget-friendly Apple Watch SE will have to wait a year. As the latest report suggests, Apple will only refresh its regular Apple Watch and Ultra models this year, leaving the Apple Watch SE 3 for 2024.

However, we don’t know what it means for the Apple Watch SE 2 price, as it is currently hanging around the $249 price point. Hopefully, it will get a price cut.

No affordable Apple Watch SE 3 in 2023

According to the weekly Power On newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, “there isn’t a new Apple Watch SE coming this year, which makes sense as that model is on a two-year upgrade cycle and was refreshed in 2022.”

If the new report is accurate (as Gurman’s often are) Apple would only announce the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the Apple Watch Series 9 in the September event, meaning the Apple Watch SE would get a two-year refresh cycle, as it was last updated in September 2022.

The Apple Watch SE is the most affordable smartwatch in Apple’s arsenal. But the lower price tag comes from cost-cutting by eliminating advanced features, like the always-on display and ECG.

And in terms of design, it looks like a cheaper Apple Watch Series 8 with thicker bezels. However, it will ship with watchOS 10 when it launches.

So, we just have to wait till 2024 to see what Apple does with the Apple Watch SE line. Hopefully, Apple will add new features and make the bezels slimmer. Otherwise, it may look even more dated compared to its high-end counterparts.

The new Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the Apple Watch Series 9 are expected to be announced at the next Apple event in September. Fans are eagerly waiting for the new iteration of Apple smartwatches.

However, a new leak suggests the new Apple Watches are going to be much faster than their predecessors because of the new Apple S9 chip.

New S9 chip coming to Apple Watch Ultra 2 & Watch Series 9

apple watch ultra 2 is expected to get performance boost
Image: KnowTechie

This report comes from Bloomberg’s famed Apple journalist Mark Gurman via his weekly Power On newsletter over the weekend.

Gurman says that Apple’s new S9 chip will offer a significant performance boost that we haven’t seen in any other Apple Watch since the S6 chip that powered Apple’s Watch Series 6.

Till now, Apple was basically using iterative upgrades to its Apple Watch chip. The current generation Apple Watches, the Watch Series 8, and the Apple Watch Ultra feature the S8 chip.

Due to the upgraded chipset, the next-generation Apple Watches are expected to come with better performance, including faster app opening and data refresh.

The new watchOS 10 update will also change how customers use the Apple Watch, making it more accessible and widget focused. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 & Watch Series 9 will likely be announced alongside the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro models. Apple could also announce new iPads and Macs in that same event. However, we don’t have any confirmation regarding the same.

Apple rolled out multiple updates last week, including iOS 16.5, WatchOS 9.5, and more. However, it wasn’t the smoothest update launch.

iOS 16.5 reportedly has issues, and now Apple Watch users across Apple Support forums and Reddit are reporting a weird Green Tint, which was introduced by the latest WatchOS update.

The issue was initially noticed on the Apple Watch 8 Series; however, the green tint issue is reportedly affecting the Watch SE 2 and Watch Ultra as well.

Two smartwatches are being displayed.
Image: Reddit

Regarding the issue itself, the green tint is limited to specific sections of the WatchOS, like the Notification Center, Quick Settings, and others.

However, the green tint isn’t visible when looking at the watch display from different angles. It is only visible when viewed directly from a straight angle.

The good news is that restarting usually fixes the problem in most cases. However, the issue still remains on most Apple Watches across the globe, even after multiple restarts, according to reports.

Apple hasn’t officially addressed the issue yet. It wouldn’t be surprising if they release a watchOS 9.5.1 update to fix it.

Apple Watch may be getting widgets back https://knowtechie.com/watchos-10-getting-widgets/ https://knowtechie.com/watchos-10-getting-widgets/#respond Mon, 01 May 2023 19:30:24 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=289528 It's been many years since the Apple Watch had widgets. It looks like they're possibly making a rightful comeback.

The post Apple Watch may be getting widgets back appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Apple is supposedly bringing back a long-lost feature for watchOS 10: widgets. The Apple Watch has been a sea of apps and notifications for many years now. So, it’s time for a new way to view your wrist.

When the Apple Watch was new, the Glances widgets were in full swing. Pretty quickly, Apple pulled the plug on Glances. In 2016, watchOS 3 opted to focus more on apps and getting notifications on the watch interface.

As someone with giant sausage fingers and shaky hands here, this was a really big turn-off for many people. But Apple does what Apple does, and Apple fans learned to live with it as they do.

A person is planning to go for a run today, leaving from their home and checking the traffic conditions along the way. Outdoor to home Start run Walk

It’s looking like Apple is considering bringing the concept of widgets back, albeit not fully as Glances. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple will take a little from column A and a little from column B.

The new interface will be a nice combination of Glances and the widgets the iPhone got back in iOS 14.

Fat-fingered tech fans rejoice over widgets!

Gurman explains that apps don’t work well on a tiny screen. He goes into detail that the watch’s App Store is basically a ghost town in terms of users utilizing it, at least in Europe.

The important takeaway is that Apple finally sees that people want “as much information as possible with the least amount of poking around.”

He also believes that there may be some pushback from users that are used to the current user interface. He believes there could be a period where the new widget interface could be optional.

In any case, the Apple Watch may be more attuned to people that want information literally at their fingertips.

Customization is king, which widgets would allow for on an Apple Watch. For those just wanting to customize their iPhones, in the meantime, you can always make your app icons pretty.

Apple’s Crash Detection feature triggers false 911 calls from skiers https://knowtechie.com/apples-crash-detection-false-alarm-skiing/ https://knowtechie.com/apples-crash-detection-false-alarm-skiing/#respond Fri, 02 Dec 2022 15:52:09 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=259750 It looks like Crash Detection could still use a little tweaking.

The post Apple’s Crash Detection feature triggers false 911 calls from skiers appeared first on KnowTechie.

A recent report from KSL explains how Apple’s new Crash Detection feature triggers unwanted 911 calls.

Dispatchers in Summit County, Utah, have received an influx of Crash Detection calls, but most aren’t related to car accidents.

Instead, the alert goes off while people are skiing at nearby ski resorts. And many of these Crash Detection alerts come when a skiing accident hasn’t even occurred.

And this happens more often than you’d think. For instance, this Reddit user explains how his Apple Watch dialed 911 while he was going down a hill.

Apple’s new Crash Detection feature in the iPhone 14 and new Apple Watches alerts emergency services when it thinks you’ve been in an accident.

But it sometimes triggers when users are skiing fast down a mountain.

Crash Detection has a built-in safeguard against false alerts. When your iPhone or Apple Watch detects what it thinks is a crash, you have about 20 seconds to cancel the alert.

skiing tech

However, you likely won’t hear or feel the alert if you’re busy zooming down a mountain. So your device alerts emergency services, leaving you to explain yourself.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Apple’s Crash Detection sending out false alerts.

The same issue was recently discovered by theme park customers after a roller coaster ride triggered the crash detection alert.

But it also potentially saved a life in one man’s case. At the end of the day, Crash Detection is an amazing feature. But it could possibly use some tweaking going forward.

Crash Detection is available on the new iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and the new Apple Watch SE.

 1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is connected to its charger and within range of your iPhone.
 2. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
 3. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap General > Software Update.

In this post, we’ll show you how to keep your Apple Watch up to date. WatchOS updates keep your device safer and more efficient. The updates can include new features as well.

So, how do you know when your Apple Watch is ready for an update?

Most of the time, you’ll get a notification on your iPhone to let you know an update is ready. Additionally, the notification will ask if you want to update overnight.

Typically, you can confirm this notification, leave your iPhone and Apple Watch on their charger overnight, and you’ll wake up to an updated Watch.

But if you can’t wait for an update? Sometimes, you might want (or need) to manually update. No sweat, we’ll show you how.

Here’s how to keep your Apple Watch up to date

⚠️ A few things before we start. Make sure your iPhone is on the latest version of iOS. Your Apple Watch needs at least 50% battery, and your iPhone needs to be on Wi-Fi. And lastly, keep your iPhone and Apple Watch near each other.

The update could take minutes, or it could take several hours.

Apple suggests updating overnight, so you’re not stuck waiting around.

Some things could stop your Apple Watch from updating. Thankfully, most fixes are extremely straightforward.

First, if you are having issues during the update process, ensure it’s connected properly to its charger. Most of the time, this solves most issues.

If not, restart the Apple Watch by holding the side button until you see Power Off prompt, then dragging the slider to confirm the shutdown.

Then, hold the side button again to turn it back on. From here, restart your iPhone and then try updating again.

Apple Watch updates give you the latest and greatest features

Now, your Apple Watch is updated to the latest watchOS. Even better, you know exactly what to do next time
